Private Artisan Fabric Factory Tour With Wine Tasting And Afternoon Spa Visit
After a breakfast buffet at your hotel, you’ll have a chance to tour an artisan, 70-year old family-owned textile factory in Umbria that specializes in producing fabrics based on ancient as well as modern Umbrian designs.
The factory uses a fascinating early fabricated leather computer-like card reader that enables artisan workers to design and create scarves, table linens, and napkins while using old manual methods of cloth production.
You will have an opportunity to see all that they produce and to do some tax free shopping in Italy and shop for specialty items.
Next, we will have lunch at one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the region. You will enjoy the many cheeses, meats, vegetables, honey, and wine produced on their farm.

And you can take a break at a local spa built on top of ancient Roman baths. At the spa, you’ll have time to indulge, relax, recuperate and spend some magical time while enjoying an aperitif before we depart.

Small Group Guided Tour Of Artisan Ceramic Factory And Shopping In Deruta
After breakfast, we will drive to a town which has had a worldwide reputation for centuries and is one of the most famous places to visit in Italy. Nearby Deruta has been celebrated for its hand-painted ceramics since the early Middle Ages. The town itself is dramatically stunning.
With over 200 boutique ceramic artisan workshops to visit, you’ll find some of the most beautiful hand-painted ceramics in Italy. These include a wide variety of irresistible traditional and modern ceramic tableware, plates, bowls, dishes, cups, tables, lamps and artistic ceramics. Many items can also be made to order and individually monogrammed. You are likely to find many cool souvenirs from Italy and a number of cool things to buy in Italy.
Our first stop will be a small artisan factory where we will explore how ceramics are made and painted. You’ll learn the differences between authentic Italian hand-made ceramics and lower quality foreign “knock offs”. We will then visit the spectacular local ceramic museum, which is located in a converted cloister of the Church of San Francesco. The museum features local ceramics dating back to the 14th century.
You will have plenty of time to visit and shop at the numerous shops while having lunch on your own at our expense. We’ll return to Spello in mid-afternoon for private time and packing. For your farewell celebration, one of our favorite Italian chefs will prepare a private dinner at a privately owned 17th century storybook palazzo.
