Our "Gardens, Palaces & Volcanic Lake Escape" is a hand-crafted 3-day tour extension carefully curated for travelers over 50 who want to experience the authentic heart of Italy. As specialists in small Italian countryside tours for seniors, we focus on providing a leisurely, comfortable pace combined with high-end, personalized service.

You will marvel at the oversized stone sculptures of Bomarzo and wander through the pristine formal gardens of Villa Lante before settling into lakeside accommodations on Lake Bolsena.

Discover the captivating history of Viterbo—the historic "City of the Popes"—and walk among the evocative ruins of the Roman theater at Ferento.

You will also enjoy a private tour of Caprarola's sweeping Palazzo Farnese, famous for its hidden upper gardens and stunning Renaissance frescoes.

True to the Italy Adventures philosophy, food and wine are central to this escape. You will enjoy slow-paced meals featuring regional delicacies and local wines. With all logistics, tickets, and private transportation meticulously handled, your only task is to relax, immerse yourself in local culture, and make lifelong memories.

Tour Extension Highlights:

  • Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola: Stand in awe before one of the most important High Renaissance mansions in the world. This massive, pentagonal fortress-turned-palace dominates the skyline, boasting a breathtaking royal spiral staircase and frescoed galleries—including the famous Room of World Maps—that rival those in the Vatican.

  • Gardens of Villa Lante: Explore one of Italy’s finest Renaissance gardens. The gardens use water as an art form, with cascading fountains, symmetrical hedges, and stone labyrinths that blend nature, architecture, and engineering.

  • Medieval Viterbo: Walk through history in the "City of the Popes." You’ll wander the cobblestone alleyways of the perfectly preserved San Pellegrino quarter, exploring towering stone palazzos, fountains, and the historic Papal Palace, which hosted the longest papal election in history.

  • Gardens of Bomarzo: Wander through a tranquil yet somewhat bizarre 16th-century “Sacred Wood” where moss-covered sculptures, whimsical monsters, and hidden grottoes create a dreamlike, contemplative atmosphere.

  • Private Lake Bolsena Boat Tour: Enjoy the deep blue, crystal-clear waters of this ancient volcanic lake –- the largest in Europe. Skirt the shores of the mysterious Bisentina and Martana islands, uncovering hidden chapels, lush Mediterranean flora, and a unique perspective of the lakeside villages from the water.
